Selling Online Businesses

It seems strange to think that the internet has only existed for the majority of us for just a couple of decades. Yet the word revolution I don’t think would be an understatement to define how it has changed all our lives.

We now shop, date, socialise and many other things we once did in person are now done online. That also applies to how we do business. Most businesses now have a website, a social media presence and there are even some that operate fully in the virtual world.

But how does a business broker quantify how to sell them. I suppose the basics are still the same. A business broker would look at the turnover, staff costs and overheads. But when there are no premises what exactly are you selling?

Well, there are many things to consider. Firstly, just like a restaurant or a beauty salon will have a client list, often regular and repeat customers, so can an online business, which can help quantify its value.

An online business will usually have the option for users of the business to register with it so they can use its services. These details will go on a database and the more users you have interacting or purchasing your product the more valuable your online business will be.

Now one of the biggest aspects of the online world in recent years is social media. We can now communicate like never before because of it. The more followers you have on apps like Twitter or Instagram the more chance you have to convert that following into turnover.

This could be by online advertisers paying you to recommend their product or simply by tweeting or posting through your social media channels whatever service you are offering. The more followers you have the more people your online marketing is reaching and if you have celebrity clients or influencers using your service the more marketable and potentially popular it will become.

Another aspect of selling an online business is as I mentioned earlier, is online, most of the time there is no physical business, no bricks and mortar to sell. But this can be a huge positive as it makes the business easily relocatable. If you have an internet connection you can run it from anywhere. Which can also make an online business ideal as a bolt on opportunity for someone who already has an online presence.

Sound interesting? Then why not have a look at our website as we have a number of online businesses for sale with us right now, because in business the virtual world is becoming increasingly real.
